 2017 Preview 


       Pleasant Valley finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Pleasant Valley finished seventh in Class 3A region five with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The Raiders have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2010 season and would love to end that streak this year. They have never won a playoff game in the school's history.

       Pleasant Valley was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Raiders want to be competitive. They only averaged 17.5 points a game.

       The Raiders would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-18 record. Since 2010, the Pleasant Valley football program has struggled with a record of 20-51.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Pleasant Valley has not won much with a record of 61-199. Their 24.0% winning percentage ranks 58th in Class 3A and 370th in the AHSAA. The Raiders have struggled on the football field with only three winning seasons during this time. Their last winning season was 2008.

       The Raiders are led by head coach Jonathan Nix who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 2-18 over the past two seasons at Pleasant Valley. The Raiders have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Nix.

       Coach Nix's overall record as a head football coach in eight season stands at 39-46 (45.9%). Over the course of his career, Coach Nix's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times and won one region championship.

       The Pleasant Valley Raiders will play in Class 3A region five during the 2017 season. The Raiders have one of the toughest schedules in Class 3A. Their opponents had a combined record of 77-42 last season. That ranks 1st in Class 3A and 3rd in the AHSAA.

       Region five will be one of the most competitive regions in any classification this season.

       The Raiders enter the 2017 season in the middle of a 8 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Raiders will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region five.

      

       The Raiders open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Vincent on Friday, August 25 at Harold Garrett Stadium. Last year the Vincent Yellow Jackets finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in seventh place in Class 2A region five. The Yellow Jackets closed out the regular season with a loss to Victory Christian by a score of 53-39.

       Pleasant Valley and Vincent have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Raiders have a 1-5-0 record against the Yellow Jackets. They last met in 2016 with Pleasant Valley winning by a score of 42-0.
